Why Polish Concrete?

Our concrete polishing process brings out the natural strength and shine of your existing floor while improving performance and longevity. While you might not see the value in polishing your existing concrete, it can help in many ways. For example, polished concrete is:

  • Low maintenance: After your concrete has its polish, all it requires is routine cleaning. It doesn’t even need waxing, shining, or re-polishing.
  • Protective: Unpolished concrete can break down over time, littering the floor and threatening the stability of your concrete structure. The polish will add a layer of protection, ensuring your concrete stands the test of time.
  • Energy-efficient: The polish’s reflective status allows for more light without more energy. You won’t have to turn as many lights on, saving you on electricity over the long run.
  • Durable: Concrete itself is long-lasting, but with polish in place, you’ll increase the longevity even further.
  • Attractive: What once was a boring and dull concrete slab can become a reflective, shiny, and decorative part of your overall décor.

If you want to have the best polished concrete flooring, rely on Concrete Solutions.

Our 5-Step Polished Concrete Installation Process

  1. Surface Preparation & Grinding: We use coarse metal-bond diamond abrasives (30 to 80 grit) to remove previous sealers, stains, and slab imperfections.
  2. Crack & Joint Repair: We fill hairline cracks, spalls, and expansion joints with color-matched polyurea or epoxy filler.
  3. Chemical Hardening (Densifier): We apply a penetrating lithium/sodium silicate densifier to chemically harden the concrete slab from within.
  4. Honing & Fine Polishing: We progress through resin-bond diamond pads (from 400 to 3,000 grit) to achieve your chosen level of sheen (matte, semi-gloss, or high-gloss mirror finish).
  5. Penetrating Stain Guard & Burnishing: We apply a protective micro-guard sealer and high-speed burnish the floor for maximum stain resistance.

Polished Concrete Finish Levels

The final appearance of polished concrete depends on two main factors: sheen level and aggregate exposure. The sheen determines how much light the floor reflects, while aggregate exposure determines how much of the stone within the concrete is visible. Together, these choices can create anything from a subtle matte surface to a highly reflective, decorative floor.

Level 1: Flat / Matte Finish

A Level 1 polished concrete finish provides a smooth, understated appearance with minimal light reflection. The concrete is typically refined up to approximately 100 grit, creating a natural-looking surface without a glossy finish.

This level works well for industrial spaces, utility areas, workshops, and projects where durability and simplicity are more important than shine.

Level 2: Satin / Low-Sheen Finish

A Level 2 finish provides a cleaner, more refined appearance while maintaining relatively low reflectivity. The concrete is typically polished to approximately 400 grit.

The satin finish is a popular option for commercial spaces because it offers a professional appearance without the stronger reflections associated with higher polish levels. It can work well in offices, restaurants, retail environments, and other high-traffic spaces.

Level 3: Semi-Gloss Finish

A Level 3 polished concrete floor is typically refined to approximately 800 grit, producing noticeably greater clarity and light reflection. Lighting and surrounding objects may begin to reflect from the floor while the concrete retains its natural character.

This is a popular choice for residential living spaces, showrooms, restaurants, retail stores, and modern commercial interiors where appearance is an important part of the finished space.

Level 4: High-Gloss / Mirror Finish

Level 4 provides the highest degree of reflectivity and is typically achieved by polishing the concrete to approximately 1,500 to 3,000 grit. The result is a highly refined surface capable of producing sharp light reflections and a mirror-like appearance.

High-gloss polished concrete is often selected for showrooms, luxury residential spaces, retail environments, hotels, and decorative commercial interiors where a premium visual finish is the priority.

Aggregate Exposure Options

Sheen is only part of the finished look. Aggregate exposure refers to how much sand and stone beneath the concrete surface is revealed during grinding. The deeper the surface is ground, the more aggregate becomes visible.

Common options include cream finish, which exposes little to no aggregate; salt-and-pepper, which reveals fine sand and small aggregate; and medium to heavy aggregate exposure, which reveals increasingly larger stones and creates a more decorative terrazzo-like appearance.

The right combination of aggregate exposure and polish level depends on the existing concrete, desired appearance, traffic conditions, maintenance expectations, and project budget. Because every concrete slab is different, the exact appearance and aggregate distribution can vary from floor to floor.

How Much Does Polished Concrete Cost in Orange County?

Polished concrete in Orange County typically ranges from $3 to $8 per square foot for standard residential garages and commercial spaces, and $8 to $14+ per square foot for decorative stained concrete or concrete repair, high-grit gloss finishes, or heavy aggregate exposure.
